Our Top Story Tonight: Ready For the Third "Hangover"?

Ready for the third entry in The Hangover franchise? I'm not, but I'm sure a majority of Americans are. Anyway, this film follows "the wolfpack" as they head to Vegas (again) to bring Alan to a rehab of some sorts? Naturally things go out of control and Chow comes back and wreaks havoc on the group. There is also, apparently, comedy in this trailer but I missed it.

I don't mean to come off as a film snob. I try to not "hate" on franchises that are popular amongst audiences. But I hated The Hangover. I didn't find it funny, clever, intelligent or enjoyable in anyway. In fact, I found it downright mean spirited. The "wolfpack" came off as incredibly unlikable characters. I wouldn't want to spend time with these people in real life, so why would I want to in a film? Anyway, this franchise just isn't for me. I'm sure many people will enjoy it, and that's fine, but I just can't imagine sitting through another film with these characters in it. And this is coming from a fan of Bradley Cooper and Justin Bartha. Anyway, the film hits theaters May 24.
  • The Way, Way Back was one of Sundance's most buzzed about films, and now those who didn't attend the film festival (myself included) can check out footage from the coming of age comedy, which is set to hit theaters July 5. The film follows a young boy on a vacation with his mom and mom's boyfriend, who befriends the manager of a water park and learns life lessons. I'm a sucker for a good coming of age story, and this one looks particularly good. It also features a great cast (Steve Carrell, Toni Collette and Sam Rockwell to name a few) and is written/directed by the Academy Award winning screenwriters of The Descendants. So, it should be pretty good. Check out the trailer here
  • Rachel McAdams has joined the cast of Cameron Crowe's next film, which is currently in pre-production and is being kept top secret. All we know is that she is a former lover of Bradley Cooper's character, and that it is a comedic role. Along with McAdams and Cooper, the film will star Emma Stone as the female lead. Despite a recent string of critical duds and commercial flops, I love Cameron Crowe and consider Almost Famous to be nothing short of a masterpiece. I'm also a fan of all three actors in the cast so far. So, I'll be looking forward to this one, whenever it hits theaters.
  • Robert Redford will be teaming up with David Lowrey, director of Ain't Them Bodies Saints on The Old Man and the Gun. The film is based on the true story of a bank robber who had been stealing for years and was caught at the age of 80 and put in jail. The story sounds interesting, and Ain't Them Bodies Saints (which is to be released in August) has gotten great reviews since its debut at Sundance, so I'm definitely looking forward to this.
  • Anybody care for a prequel to The Shining? I don't know anyone that's been begging for one, but Warner Bros. has just hired former The Walking Dead producer, Glen Mazzara, to write one. Not much is known about the film, and Mazzara's involvement has not been confirmed, but I'm assuming it will involve the history of the hotel at the center of the horror classic. Personally, I don't find the original film to be all that scary, but it's certainly well made and worth seeing. I can't help but imagine a prequel will be unnecessary, and I can't imagine it being all that good. Besides, isn't Stephen King writing a sequel? Why not just adapt that?
  • Finally, a domestic trailer for Rush has appeared online. I already spoke about that film a few days ago, but this trailer makes the film look much better. Take a look.

  1. Matt....
Great blog. I spoke to K.A. from the Marlboro Patch and she suggested that I contact you. Not sure if I went straight to spam at your R.U. email address. I figured that I would give it one more try before going on to other candidates.
